Perez signs Cadillac extension through 2029
Sergio Perez has signed a multi-year extension to his Cadillac contract to commit his long-term future to the American Formula 1 team.
Cadillac prioritized experience for its first season in F1 this year, pairing Perez with Valtteri Bottas in a line-up that boasts 16 grand prix victories between them. While Bottas was Mercedes reserve driver last season, Perez returned to F1 after a year out following his departure from Red Bull, and has impressed with a series of strong performances so far in 2026.
While there were enquiries from other teams regarding his availability in the summer, Cadillac was keen to tie the Mexican down to a longer-term deal, with Perez having been vocal about areas the team needs to improve in order to move up the grid.
“Joining Cadillac Formula 1 Team from day one was a project I truly believed in, and extending my commitment feels like a natural continuation of this chapter,” Perez said. “Building a Formula 1 team from the ground up takes time, relentless work and patience, but the progress we are making together is incredibly rewarding. There is still a lot of work ahead of us and I am fully committed for the next three years.
“I want to thank Dan [Towriss], Mark [Reuss], and everyone at TWG Motorsports and General Motors for the opportunity to build on what we have started together. To every member of this special team, at the track, in the U.S., the UK and our fans, thank you for your support and trust. I won’t let you down. Let’s keep pushing!”
Perez will mark his 300th GP start at this weekend’s Mexico City Grand Prix (he’s pictured above commemorating the anniversary at a media event for sponsor Telcel), and is also carrying it a show run in front of a huge home crowd in the city on Wednesday. Cadillac F1 team CEO Towriss says it was the perfect time to confirm the 36-year-old’s future, with ongoing uncertainty over who will partner him in 2027.
“On the eve of a special weekend in Mexico City, we’re thrilled to announce that Checo will remain an integral part of Cadillac Formula 1 Team for years to come,” Towriss said. “Building a competitive team in F1 is a long-term journey, and securing Checo’s talent and leadership gives us the continuity and commitment we need to build on the strong foundation established in our first year. Together, we are focused on the next phase of our journey, pushing the team forward and making progress up the grid.”
Bottas is currently contracted to be Perez’s teammate again next season, but Towriss confirmed over the U.S. Grand Prix weekend that there remains a chance Colton Herta is promoted into a race seat.
